In 1993, USA Today Baseball Weekly used Diamond Mind Baseball to conduct a tournament designed to identify the best team in baseball history. Their panel of experts chose 32 teams and randomly placed them into a single-elimination tournament bracket. To make this a true test, each round consisted of a 154-game season between the two teams, with the winner advancing to the next round.
